‘Symbolic and historic UGTT headquarters to be inaugurated on January 20, 2024’ (Taboubi)

Secretary General of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) Noureddine Taboubi announced that the headquarters of the trade union center at Mohamed Ali Hammi Street in Tunis will be inaugurated on January 20, 2024, after the completion of the renovation works which lasted almost 2 years.

Speaking to TAP on Monday, before the speech he delivered on the Commemoration of the 71st Anniversary of the Assassination of Trade Union Leader Farhat Hached, that the date of January 20 coincides with the 78th anniversary of the creation of the UGTT.

«In this new building, a space has been dedicated to national and trade union memory. It includes the major historical stages of the Tunisian trade union movement in relation to the militant movement of the Tunisian working class and the Tunisian people and their progressive democratic forces who fought to defend values of freedom and equality,” he pointed out.

UGTT Official Spokesperson Sami Tahri affirmed that the new building of the union center has retained certain ch
aracteristics of the old building under the recommendations of the National Heritage Institute, the Association for the Preservation of the Medina of Tunis and the Municipality of Tunis.

He indicated that the new headquarters includes 5 floors, meeting rooms and equipped offices, adding that the renovation works cost nearly 27 MD.
