Luanda: A dedicated cargo route to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, was recently inaugurated by TAAG - Angola Airlines, to reinforce its expansion strategy in the African freight transport market. According to Angola Press News Agency, the first service was carried out via flight DT7587, operated by a Boeing 737-800 Freighter, and transported 12.8 tons of cargo from Amsterdam, including machine parts, computer equipment, personal belongings, and other high-value goods. In a press release from TAAG sent to ANGOP, it was revealed that initial demand confirms the potential of the new connection, with cargoes of 14 and 16 tons already planned for subsequent operations. In the first phase, the route will have a weekly frequency and will be provided in partnership with NAC2000, responsible for ground handling services and the functions of General Sales and Services Agent of TAAG in Zambia. With the opening of this route, the carrier will offer dedicated cargo services to Lagos, Brazzaville, Abidjan, Accra, Kinshas a, Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Lusaka, reinforcing logistical connectivity between strategic markets on the continent. The company states that the new route integrates the North-South logistics corridor and creates a new gateway for goods from various countries in Europe, China, and Brazil, expanding distribution options for the African market. According to TAAG, the operation also contributes to the objectives of the Airlift Zambia initiative, by creating better conditions for the export of products such as beef, poultry, vegetables, and other goods, facilitating access to the Angolan market and the carrier's international network, as well as boosting new trade opportunities between Angola and Zambia. For the fourth quarter of 2026, TAAG's cargo transport business unit plans to expand its network with the opening of a new route to Libreville, Gabon. The company considers that the expansion of its cargo network reaffirms its commitment to the development of competitive logistics solutions, regional economic integration, and the strengthening of supply chains that link Angola to key African and international markets.
