Tataouine: Project to develop cultural and adventure tourism in Ghomrassen complete

The project to develop cultural and adventure tourism in Tataouine was completed on Saturday and presented at a ceremony organised around the project for a new tourism product co-financed with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) as part of the “Tounes Wejhatouna” programme. Initiated by the Ghomrassen Heritage Conservation Association and launched last July, the project includes activities such as motorbike rides on five circuits (100 km) and other walking routes linking 15 heritage, archaeological and geological tourist sites. The tours are centred around Ksar Hadada in Ghomrassen, 55 kilometres from this monument, which was used as a filming location for cult film “Star Wars” and is also home to unique geological sites dating back more than 150 million years. “Making this project a success is a big challenge as it is closely linked to the availability of tourist infrastructure,” Samir Kharchani, president of the Ghomrassan Heritage Protection Association, told TAP. He urged investors to speed up the construction of housing and restaurants to meet the needs of visitors.
