Torrential Rain Causes Significant Material Damage in Safan©

Mouhoun: Torrential rain accompanied by strong winds hit the town of Safan© on the evening of Sunday, April 13, 2025, causing significant material damage. Several infrastructures were damaged, according to AIB findings on site.

According to Burkina Information Agency, at the Safan© Departmental High School, four classrooms were roofed off, exposing the buildings to the elements. The newly renovated headquarters of the Departmental Union of Cotton Producers was also badly damaged: its roof was ripped off by the force of the wind.

Electrical installations were not spared. Two SONABEL poles were knocked down, disrupting the electricity supply in several neighborhoods.

Despite the violence of the storm, no loss of life or injuries were recorded, according to initial reports.

A relief for local authorities and residents faced with the extent of the damage. Teams are currently being mobilized to assess the damage and begin initial repairs. The priority is restoring power and ensuring the rapid resumption of classes, particularly at the affected high school just weeks before the end-of-year exams.

In the meantime, authorities are calling for solidarity and vigilance, praising the calm and cooperation of the population. The atmosphere remains tense in the city, as residents gradually come out to survey the damage.
