Catumbela: Three people died and five were injured as a result of a run-over followed by a collision with a fixed obstacle (separators), which occurred this Saturday morning, in the municipality of Catumbela, on National Road 100, ANGOP learned.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the head of the communications and press section of the National Police in Benguela, Chief Inspector Margarida Calueto, stated that the accident occurred around 5:50 am. The vehicle, operating as a taxi on the Lobito/Catumbela/Benguela stretch, fatally struck a pedestrian crossing the road and subsequently collided with a divider.
Margarida Calueto explained that after the initial impact, the driver lost control, leading to a crash into the metal barriers on that section of the EN-100. During the incident, one passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, while another was trapped inside and also succumbed to injuries at the scene.
The five injured individuals are receiving medical treatment at a local health unit. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the morgue at Benguela General Hospital following forensic examinations by the Criminal Investigation Service.
The driver involved in the accident is currently in custody. Police authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution to prevent fatalities and material damage on the roads.
