Tunisia faces complex situation because of lack of rights and freedoms (LTDH)

President of the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights Bassem Trifi, Saturday, said that Tunisia is facing a “complex situation because of the President of the Republic who monopolizes the legislative power,» adding that «Saied runs all political institutions by himself.»

Trifi also underlined that the government has become «a tool in the hands of the Head of State.»

During his speech delivered on the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Trifi pointed out that Tunisia is currently witnessing restrictions on freedoms, a repression of political activities and an absence of the most basic conditions for fair court trials.

He explained that most restrictions are exercised against journalists under Decree 54 which contradicts the entire philosophy of media freedoms guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

He reiterated that Tunisia is going through an «unprecedented crisis» due to «a lack of a clear government policy to find solutions to the country’s main p
roblems and avoid its economic collapse.»
