Luanda: The Unio Amazonas do Prenda carnival group has reached approximately 65% completion of its preparations for the upcoming carnival parade on the 16th of this month. The announcement was made by the group's secretary-general, Domingos Mboloy, on Monday. According to Angola Press News Agency, Mboloy stated that rehearsals are progressing well, with the expectation that the group will be fully coordinated by the 7th of this month. He emphasized their progress in choreography, dance, panels, and costumes, ensuring they are on the right track. The group plans to present the theme "The Wonders of Angola and Our Riches," focusing on tourism and the country's cultural and natural potential. However, Mboloy explained that they have only received 10% of their usual budget, with one million kwanzas allocated for class A and 500,000 kwanzas for the children's class, which is insufficient to cover all expenses. Despite financial constraints, the secretary-general remains confident, aiming for a top-three finish after achieving fourth place in the 2025 edition. He highlighted the group's efforts to correct past mistakes and enhance their performance for a podium finish, acknowledging the challenges posed by the parade's demands. Unio Amazonas do Prenda, representing Maianga in the competitive Class A of the Luanda Carnival, has been a prominent group since its inception in 1987. Known for its prestigious standing, the group gained recognition in the 2025 edition with a theme honoring Angola's kingdoms, reinforcing national identity and ancestry during the Nova Marginal parade. In addition to its main group, Unio Amazonas do Prenda has a children's branch, Cassule do Amazonas do Prenda, which achieved outstanding results, including a second-place finish in the 2023 Carnival.
