United Kingdom Supports Construction of Luena/Saurimo Railway Branch

Saurimo: The United Kingdom ambassador to Angola, Bharat Joshi, announced that the UK is financing the construction of a new railway branch connecting Luena (Moxico) to Saurimo (Lunda-Sul), covering a distance of 260 kilometers. The announcement was made during a meeting with the provincial governor of Lunda-Sul, Daniel Neto, where the ambassador highlighted the British government's commitment to promoting regional development.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the UK is actively involved in several projects across Angola, focusing on infrastructure, electricity, and road construction to facilitate the country's progress and growth. Ambassador Joshi emphasized that British companies such as De Beers, Rio Tinto, and ConsultMed are contributing significantly to the mining sector in Lunda-Sul, aiding the province's economic growth.

The ambassador's visit to the provinces of Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul aimed to explore and discuss potential business opportunities between British and Angolan entrepreneurs. He expressed a desire for increased British investment in sectors like agriculture and tourism within Angola, which could provide more employment opportunities for young people in the region.

Ambassador Joshi also commended the quality of the Malanje/Saurimo railway section, which has significantly boosted trade in the region. During his working visit to Lunda-Sul, he toured the facilities of major companies such as De Beers and Rio Tinto, underscoring the strong economic ties between the United Kingdom and Angola.

The province of Lunda-Sul has 14 municipalities, with arable land for agriculture and tourist potential.
