World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings Begin in Bangkok

Bangkok:Proceedings for the 82nd Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have started in Bangkok, Thailand, with Angola among the participating countries.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the event, which runs from October 12 to 18, carries the theme "Thailand's New Horizons Empowering People, Building Resilience." Angola's delegation is led by the Secretary of State for Planning, Luís Epalanga, and includes key officials such as the Governor of the National Bank of Angola, Manuel Tiago Dias, and the Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury, Ottoniel dos Santos.

At the commencement of the meetings, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga emphasized the potential of simple artificial intelligence solutions to enhance productivity and generate employment in developing nations. Promoting these applications is a priority for the World Bank and the Global Jobs Council, which examines the effects of economic and technological changes on the labor market.

Participants, including business leaders and youth representatives, are engaging in discussions on artificial intelligence, job transformation, skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation. These discussions aim to explore the necessary policies to prepare young people for a rapidly evolving global economy.

The official program features events such as the G24 Ministerial Meeting, the African Caucus with World Bank and IMF leadership, and meetings between African Governors and the World Bank President. The agenda also includes the Development Committee meeting and the plenary session, with a focus on addressing global economic challenges and promoting sustainable and inclusive growth.

Key topics include private capital mobilization, job creation, technological innovation, artificial intelligence, and strengthening economic resilience. These are seen as critical for economic transformation and fostering inclusive development.

This is the second time Thailand has hosted the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings, with the first instance in 1991. Angola, a member of the World Bank and IMF since 1989, continues to strengthen its relationship with these institutions through programs aimed at improving management, investment mechanisms, and economic and social growth.
