World Bank and IMF Hold 82nd Annual Meetings in Bangkok with Angola’s Participation

Bangkok:The 82nd Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund commenced in Bangkok, Thailand, with Angola represented by a delegation led by the Secretary of State for Planning, Luís Epalanga.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the meetings, which run from October 12 to 18, are themed "Thailand's New Horizons Empowering People, Building Resilience." The Angolan delegation includes the Governor of the National Bank of Angola, Manuel Tiago Dias, and other key government officials.

World Bank Group President Ajay Banga emphasized the potential of simple artificial intelligence solutions in boosting productivity and creating jobs in developing countries. He noted that promoting these applications is a priority for the World Bank and the Global Jobs Council.

Discussions at the event have included leaders from business and investment sectors, as well as young people, focusing on artificial intelligence, job transformation, skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation. These discussions aim to explore policies that ensure young people can adapt to and benefit from a rapidly changing global economy.

The official agenda features a range of meetings, including the G24 Ministerial Meeting, the African Caucus, and the Development Committee meeting. The discussions are expected to tackle global economic challenges and strategies for fostering sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth.

The meetings address crucial issues like private capital mobilization, job creation, technological innovation, and economic resilience. This marks the second time Thailand has hosted the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings, the first being in 1991.

Angola, a member of both the World Bank and IMF since 1989, has been working to strengthen its ties with these institutions through programs aimed at improving economic management and promoting growth. The history of these meetings dates back to the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference, which established the World Bank and IMF to create a stable international monetary system and support post-World War II economic development.
