Zambia Highlights Lobito Corridor to Enhance Regional Trade and Investment

Luena:The Lobito Corridor has been identified as a pivotal channel for enhancing trade, attracting investment, and fostering economic integration among Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This strategic perspective was shared by Juda Mweetwa Sikamikami, the Vice-Consul of the Republic of Zambia in eastern Angola, during the 62nd anniversary celebrations of Zambia's independence.

According to Angola Press News Agency, during the event held under the theme 'Zambia Our Journey, Our Growth and Our Future', Sikamikami emphasized the significance of developing regional infrastructure. He noted that such development could facilitate the movement of goods, stimulate private investment, and create employment opportunities, thereby contributing to economic growth in the three countries.

In his remarks, Sikamikami acknowledged the efforts of Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema in promoting the Lobito Corridor. He highlighted the corridor's potential in strengthening trade relations and expanding investment opportunities. Furthermore, Sikamikami addressed domestic challenges in Zambia, referencing the 'Zambia Agenda for Growth' strategy aimed at accelerating economic growth, boosting agricultural and mining output, and improving infrastructure.

Elizabeth Ayala, the Deputy Governor of Moxico Province, underscored the robust relations between Angola and Zambia, advocating for closer cooperation in various sectors including cross-border trade, agriculture, and energy. She also called for stronger cultural exchanges and cooperation between Moxico and Zambia's neighboring provinces. The anniversary commemorates Zambia's independence from British colonial rule on 24 October 1964, marked annually as a national public holiday.
