El Alamein:An assessment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) implementation and the adaptation of AUDA-NEPAD's operating model to current regional integration circumstances will be the primary focus of the African Union (AU) meetings in El Alamein, Egypt.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Minister of Foreign Affairs T©te Ant³nio previewed these discussions on Friday while highlighting President Joo Louren§o's involvement in the High-Level segment of the Alamein Africa-GO63 Forum. The meetings include the Summit of the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa's Development (AUDA-NEPAD) and the 8th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting between the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
During a press briefing in El Alamein, Minister Ant³nio noted that AUDA-NEPAD is celebrating 25 years of existence, and President Louren§o is attending in his capacity as Chairperson-in-Office of the Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee of the agency. At the Coordination Summit between the AU, Regional Economic Communities, and Regional Mechanisms, President Louren§o participates as a Bureau member, serving as rapporteur.
Angola is tasked with presenting the AUDA-NEPAD report, which is a key agenda item at the summit. Reports from the Regional Economic Communities and the Commissioner for Economic Affairs of the African Union Commission will also be shared, detailing the state of economic integration on the continent and the progress of AfCFTA and AUDA-NEPAD activities.
Minister Ant³nio highlighted the agenda's recognition of the private sector's role in regional integration, resulting in strong representation from both public and private sectors at the meetings. He is also scheduled to speak on Friday at the Dialogue on Economic Diplomacy, focusing on the theme 'Turning Relationships into Trade and Investment', during a plenary session themed 'Trade: From Diplomacy to Implementation - Unlocking Trade and Integration Across Africa'.
