Africell Mobile Phone Services Set to Launch in Cabinda Province

Luanda: Africell mobile phone services will be launched in Angola's northern province of Cabinda in the coming days as part of the operator's nationwide network expansion, the company's Administrative Director for External Regulation, Hugo Augusto, announced on Tuesday. According to Angola Press News Agency, tests are already under way on voice, mobile data and advanced technology services in the city of Cabinda and surrounding areas. The aim is to introduce greater competition and provide the region with additional communication options. Some areas of Cabinda city are already receiving Africell's mobile phone signal on a trial basis, with coverage expected to be expanded in the coming days. As part of the expansion, 20 telecommunications towers have been installed, alongside interconnection works and the deployment of other equipment linked to the fibre-optic infrastructure available in the region. Africell's network will also be connected to satellite technology under an agreement between the company and the National Space Management Office. During the first phase, services will be concentrated in areas with the highest population density before being extended to other parts of the province. The initial coverage area of Africell's mobile services will encompass the entire territory of Cabinda city, enabling the launch of commercial operations. Currently, Unitel and Movicel are the main providers of telecommunications and communication services in Cabinda, offering mobile voice and data networks based on 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies, as well as fixed internet services through fibre-optic networks and satellite communications solutions for remote areas.
