Afrobasket 2025: Cape Verde Defeats Rwanda in Group A of Namibe

Mo§smedes: The Cape Verde basketball team secured a victory against Rwanda, winning 75-62 in the third round of Group A of the African Championship (Afrobasket 2025) at the Welwitschia Mirabilis pavilion in Namibe province. The Cape Verdean team maintained a lead of 37-29 at halftime, effectively converting close-range shots despite Rwanda's consistent efforts to counter.

According to Angola Press News Agency, this win allowed Cape Verde to bounce back from their previous narrow 81-82 loss to C´te d'Ivoire. Rwanda, on the other hand, faced another setback after losing to DR Congo, 58-65 in their last match.

Joel Almeida was a standout performer for Cape Verde, scoring 16 points. Rwanda's Hason Ward and Steven Hagumintwari both contributed 15 points each for their team. In another game scheduled for Sunday, DR Congo and C´te d'Ivoire were set to compete in the same series and location.

The previous day witnessed Angola triumph over South Sudan with a tight score of 66-64, maintaining an undefeated streak in Group C with three wins. Guinea also emerged victorious against Libya, with a scoreline of 83-55.

The detailed scores from the Cape Verde and Rwanda match are as follows: Cape Verde's top scorers included Joel Almeida with 17 points, followed by Kenneti Mendes, Betinho Gomes, and Patrick Lima each scoring 10. Rwanda's Dieudonne Ndayisaba and Prince Twa scored 13 points each, along with Hason Ward's 12 points.
