Angola and Cape Verde Discuss Restoration of Air Links

Luanda: The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Cust³dio Vieira Lopes, met with the Secretary of State for Communities of Cape Verde, Vanusa Teixeira Barbosa, in Luanda. During their meeting, they identified new areas of cooperation, with a particular focus on the restoration of air links by the Angolan airline TAAG.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the restoration of the air link was deemed fundamental by both parties to foster cultural exchange and promote trade and tourism between Angola and Cape Verde. The meeting highlighted the important role that direct flights can play in strengthening the economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

The diplomats took the opportunity to review the historical ties that bind Angola and Cape Verde, praising the enduring friendship between their peoples. They emphasized that this friendship underpins strategic cooperation in key sectors such as culture, education, tourism, and transport.

In addition, Vanusa Barbosa shared insights about the Data Mapping Project of Cape Verdeans living in Angola. This initiative is designed to gather information on the size, location, and living conditions of the Cape Verdean diaspora in Angola, which could play a crucial role in enhancing bilateral relations.

On a multilateral level, discussions were held on enhancing collaboration within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP). The diplomats expressed the need to promote and protect the cultures of member states on the international stage and to extend mutual support in addressing global challenges.

The overall objective of the meeting was to strengthen bilateral relations and consolidate cooperation mechanisms between Angola and Cape Verde, ensuring a robust partnership for the future.
