Addis ababa: Angola and China have reaffirmed their commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation, focusing on political and diplomatic dialogue while coordinating their positions in multilateral forums. This development came during a meeting between Angola's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tete Antonio, and China's Special Representative for African Affairs, Liu Xianfa.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Commission, a preparatory event for the 39th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the continental organization. During the discussions, both parties reviewed the current state of their historic and strategic relations, exploring mechanisms to strengthen cooperation across various fields. Emphasis was placed on political and diplomatic coordination in international forums, including the United Nations.
Both countries expressed an interest in deepening their strategic partnership, which is based on mutual respect, benefit, and solidarity. The discussions highlighted the willingness to consolidate cooperation and enhance coordination within the framework of the African Union and other multilateral forums. Additionally, the meeting included an exchange of views on the situation in Africa and globally, addressing current challenges and the need for concerted solutions to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Liu Xianfa, who previously served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in China, has been in the role of Special Representative for African Affairs since January 2026.
