Brilhante Foundation Funds Telemedicine Program in Lunda-Norte

Lunda-norte: A project focused on structural solutions, including telemedicine, funded by the Brilhante Foundation, the social arm of the diamond subsector, began implementation on Thursday in certain health units in the province of Lunda-Norte. The project aims to modernize, improve access to, and ensure the sustainability of health services. According to Angola Press News Agency, the initiative, called 'Saúde Brilhante' (Brilliant Health), is a partnership between the Lunda-Norte government, the Brilhante Foundation, and Teramed Sistemas de Saúde, S.A. It includes the creation of a referral and counter-referral ecosystem. The initiative will allow citizens of Lunda-Norte to schedule appointments at public hospitals in Luanda for specialties unavailable in the province without having to travel beforehand. Technology will be used to reduce inequalities and restore hope to populations that have long had limited access to specialized health services and enable citizens to access the right specialist more quic kly, with greater dignity and lower travel costs. The initiative will not be limited to Lunda-Norte; its implementation is also planned for the provinces of Lunda-Sul and Moxico this year, with the prospect of extending it to the rest of the country. The province currently has six well-equipped municipal hospitals in Cambulo, Capenda-Camulemba, Cuango, Cuilo, Chitato, and Lucapa, as well as five provincial-level hospitals, 80 health posts, and 13 medical centres. These are staffed by 115 doctors.
