Addis ababa: Angolan President Joo Louren§o held a private meeting on Wednesday in Kinshasa with his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), F©lix Tshisekedi, to examine the implications of a new railway concession agreement for the development of the Lobito Corridor. The agreement aims to enhance connectivity and foster economic growth by improving infrastructure in the region.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting between the two leaders preceded a sectoral session involving delegations from both countries. This session brought together ministerial departments and experts linked to the concession agreement, which was due to be signed the same day by the DRC and construction company Mota-Engil. The agreement signifies a collaborative effort to upgrade the transport infrastructure and facilitate trade across borders.
Joo Louren§o has been in Kinshasa since Wednesday morning to witness the signing of the railway concession. This project will enable the rehabilitation and modernization of the railway line between the Congolese localities of Dilolo and Sakanya. The railway line, stretching for 1,004 kilometres, will connect the DRC's borders with Angola via Luau in Moxico Leste Province, and extend towards Zambia. This strategic corridor is expected to play a crucial role in boosting regional trade and enhancing economic ties among the involved countries.
