Luanda – The Angolan and Indian authorities are studying new areas for expansion of bilateral cooperation, and environmental issues may gain greater relevance, according to the ambassador of the Asian country, Ms Pratibha Parkar.
The diplomat revealed that while talking to press at the end of an audience that was granted to her this Thursday, in Luanda, by the Vice-president of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, , in which they discussed, among other issues, the results of COP27, in which both countries participated.
Regarding that, the ambassador explained that the two countries are in the same side and that they shall work to contribute for climate change mitigation.
Pratibha Parkar told the press that during the audience they also talked about issues related to education and technology fields in which both countries might work together.
The turnover between Angola and India is roughly USD 3 billion, considering that 10% of the Asian country´s oil comes from Angola.
India and Angola have established diplomatic relations since 1985 and maintain a cooperation that is considered to be extremely cordial, being Angola´s third largest trading partner.
Still on Thursday, Esperança da Costa also received in audience the head of the African Women in Maritime (WIMAFRICA), Adanlete Lawson, na organisation working towards gender equity and economic development, through women’s empowerment and fighting poverty.
Adanlete Lawson commended Angola for having a significant number of females in all sectors of the country’s life.
