Angola and Mozambique Enhance Parliamentary Cooperation in Human Rights

Luanda: The Chair of the National Assembly's 10th Committee on Human Rights, Citizenship, and Environment, MP Viglio Tyova, announced during a recent meeting in Luanda that the Angolan parliament is prepared to intensify its collaborative efforts with Mozambique's parliament. This commitment is founded on principles of mutual respect, pragmatism, and institutional continuity, marking a significant step toward fostering dialogue and cooperation in human rights initiatives between the two nations.

According to Angola Press News Agency, MP Viglio Tyova emphasized that the ongoing visit of the Mozambican delegation is more than a ceremonial gesture; it is a critical opportunity to establish ongoing dialogue and evaluation mechanisms aimed at enhancing parliamentary cooperation in the human rights sector. The goal is to identify realistic priorities and develop actionable initiatives and monitoring strategies that can deliver sustained results and institutional value for both countries' parliaments.

He further stressed the importance of exchanging experiences, with Angola eager to learn from Mozambique's developed practices while also offering its own experiences in an open and constructive manner. Tyova advocated for placing citizens at the center of parliamentary deliberations and actions, focusing on diverse groups such as women, men, children, youth, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, along with both rural and urban communities reliant on Parliament as a defender of human dignity.

Valter Paulo Mabjaia, Chair of the 8th Committee of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, expressed gratitude for the Angolan Parliament's openness to this exchange. "We are here to collaborate with this committee. As the 8th Committee, we are also open to strengthening this cooperation," he remarked.

This meeting signifies ongoing efforts to bolster parliamentary relations between Angola and Mozambique, promoting legislative and institutional best practices in the advocacy of human rights and citizenship.
