Angola Boosts Investment in Natural Parks Preservation

Harare: The minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, highlighted Angola's commitment to increase investment in the preservation of parks and in scientific research, for better management of natural and environmental resources. She was speaking at the international conference on the 25th anniversary of Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Region, which takes place in Harare, Zimbabwe from the 19th to the 23rd of the current month. The event included the meeting of joint ministers responsible for Environment, Natural Resources and Tourism.

According to Angola Press News Agency, in a press release accessed on Thursday in Luanda, the minister praised the efforts of the SADC in the protection of shared ecosystems in the region. To Ana Paula de Carvalho, these efforts strengthen cooperation between the member countries of the community, promote stability, peace, and economic development in the region.

She reaffirmed that preserving biodiversity is an essential moral and strategic responsibility for a more resilient, united, and sustainable Africa. Regarding the conference, the minister said that it reinforces the commitment of the community's member countries to protecting the continent's natural heritage and in the implementation of joint actions to promote environmental sustainability.

The conference marks the launch of important SADC strategic instruments, including the Engagement Strategy in Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), anti-poaching programmes and strengthening the management of transboundary conservation areas, which will prevent biodiversity loss.
