Angola Celebrates Gold Medal Victory at Jiu-Jitsu World Championship

Luanda: Angolan athlete Elisa François won the gold medal in the women's under-48 kg category on Saturday at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, currently taking place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. According to Angola Press News Agency, in the final, Elisa François defeated Ukraine's Toregozhina Aigerim by full ippon. "The achievement represents another moment of pride for Angolan sport and is the result of the commitment of the athletes, the coaching staff, and every member of the national delegation, who have worked to further raise Angola's profile on the international stage," stated a press release from the Embassy of Angola in the United Arab Emirates. The national team returns to competition today, Sunday, the final day of the championship, in the team event, a discipline in which Angola finished third at the previous edition held in 2022. With the gold medal, Angola has now won seven medals over eight days of competition: one gold, one silver, and five bronze, across the ne-waza and fight discipl ines. William Bráulio won the silver medal in ne-waza. The bronze medals in ne-waza were awarded to Kayron Cardoso, Heliane Caio, Hélio Caio, and Erik Benson, while Domingos Tulumba earned bronze in the fight discipline. Quoted in the statement, Luís John, president of the Angolan Jiu-Jitsu and Associated Martial Arts Federation, said the national team's objectives for the championship had been achieved and praised the commitment and dedication of the delegation.
