Luanda – Angolan government Friday expressed availability to work with the authorities of Sao Tome and Principe, with a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
This was confirmed to the press in Luanda by the Prime Minister of Sao Tome and Principe, Patrice Trovoada, at the end of a private meeting with the Angolan President, João Lourenço.
“Sao Tome is currently going through a difficult economic and financial situation,” said the Sao Tomean head of government, who is in the Angolan capital on a few-hour visit.
Trovoada expressed satisfaction that the Angolan president was “very willing” to work with the Sao Tome government over the next few months.
The prime minister expressed the desire for his country to return to “greater macroeconomic stability” and for it “to be able to guarantee its development and, above all, for the wellbeing of the population.
Angola and São Tome and Principe cooperate in the fields of defence, oil, gas and bio-fuels.
Political and military situation
“The situation is under control,” he said, in relation to the events of 25 November, when four men attacked an army barracks in São Tome and Principe in the early hours of the morning, which the prime minister called an “attempted coup”.
On the matter, he said that it is being dealt with by the Justice Department, the investigation and the Attorney General’s Office and that the results are being serenely awaited.
To São Tomean leader, the most important is the fact that the country is calm and the Government is working, especially to find economic, financial and social stability.
During the visit, Trovoada, who will return to his country later Friday, laid a wreath at the tomb of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, in Praça da República (Republic Square).
The former Angolan Head of State died last July 8, in Barcelona, Kingdom of Spain, victim of illness.
