Angola, Equatorial Guinea re-launch cooperation

Luanda – Angola and Equatorial Guinea, two member states of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), Wednesday signed four legal instruments aimed to re-launch cooperation between the countries.

The memoranda, signed Wednesday in Luanda, covers the staff training, Joint Cooperation Commission, verbal process and political consultations fields.

Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs Téte António and the Guinean minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Simeon Angue, signed the memoranda on the sidelines of the second session of the Joint Commission on Cooperation between the countries.

Addressing a ceremony, Téte António described the political-diplomatic, defence, security and public order, migration, finance, justice and human rights and agriculture as his country’s priorities.

He also highlighted the sectors of telecommunications and information technology, mineral resources, oil and gas, transport, tourism and culture, as well as investment promotion and education.

According to the Angolan top diplomat, the presence of the Guinean minister in Angola represents the will of the two countries to increase cooperation relations.

In turn, the minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Equatorial Guinea, Simeon Angue, said that “the legal instruments will help in the formation of the Portuguese language and define the areas of interest for the progressive insertion in the CPLP”.

He said that his country hopes to include in the cooperation the promotion of tourism business and investment, among other services.

“We are going to adopt strategies to combat the scourges that most frequently threaten the sub-region, such as piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, whose maritime zone emanates a large part of the natural resources that enabled the level of development in African countries”, he expressed.

Cooperation relations between Angola and Equatorial Guinea reached their high point in 2006, after the two countries signed the General Cooperation Agreement.

Since 2006, relations between Angola and Equatorial Guinea have gone through different stages of cooperation, being currently more significant in the security, oil, air transport and public order sectors.
