Angola Finishes African Zone IV with Seven Medals

Luanda: The Angolan national swimming team concluded their participation in the African Zone IV Championships in Botswana with a total of seven medals, securing 11th place overall among 15 participating countries. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan delegation's standout athlete was Wezza Morais, who claimed two gold medals in the 50 and 100 meter butterfly events. Contributing to the team's medal tally, Beatriz Scott earned a silver medal in the 100 meter breaststroke and a bronze in the 50 meter breaststroke. Rhanya Santo added to Angola's success with two bronze medals in the 400 and 800 meter freestyle events. Additionally, Marcos Furtado secured a bronze medal in the 200 meter butterfly, rounding off the team's achievements at the championship. Despite these accomplishments, Angola experienced a drop in their ranking from the previous championship held in Eswatini in 2025, where they finished seventh with a total of 18 swimming medals and four in open water events. South Africa emerg ed as the champion of the African Zone IV Championships, dominating the medal table with 102 medals, including 49 gold. Namibia followed in second place with 93 medals, of which 44 were gold. Zimbabwe occupied the third position, securing 14 gold medals among their total haul.
