Angola highlights cooperation ties with Poland

Luanda – President of the Republic João Lourenço highlighted Thursday the cooperation and friendship ties between Angola and Poland, a country with which the Angolan State has a General Cooperation Agreement, signed in 1977.

Delivering his speech at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Angolan ambassador to that European country, the Angolan Head of State considered Poland a “friendly country”.

As for the mission of Ambassador Manuel Pedro Chaves, President João Lourenço said he was sure that he would not defraud, having expressed his wishes for “success in fulfilling the mission he will now carry out”.

Speaking to the press, at the end of the ceremony, the ambassador Manuel Pedro Chaves outlined as challenges of the new mission, the strengthening of friendly relations and the identification of new areas of cooperation.

In the economic sector, the new ambassador of Angola to Poland said that the diplomatic representation is willing to support Angolan businessmen “who are willing to cooperate with businessmen in Poland”.

Since September 2017, the Angolan Government has been focusing on economic diplomacy.

The strategy aims to attract investments for the continuous construction of infrastructures in the energy, road, port and telecommunications sectors, among others, to serve as a basis for the policy of diversifying the economy.

Angola and Poland have signed several legal instruments, in particular the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, a cooperation agreement in the areas of scientific research and teaching between the Kimpa Vita do Uíge and the Agrária Universities of Kraków, in Poland.

Also in the bilateral framework, the loan agreement estimated at US$100 million by the Polish Government to Angola stands out, aimed at financing the Project Academy of Fisheries and Sea Sciences-3rd phase, in Namibe province.

Political, diplomatic and cooperation relations between Angola and Poland were reinforced on 24 April 1997 with the Declaration on Strengthening Friendship and Cooperation.
