Angola Holds Seventh Decoration Ceremony to Honor Contributors to Independence

Luanda: The second and final phase of the Seventh Decoration Ceremony marking the 50th Anniversary of Angola's Independence commenced on Saturday in Luanda, presided over by President Joo Lourenço. According to Angola Press News Agency, the first phase of the event took place on Friday, during which the Head of State awarded over 300 medals out of the 774 intended recipients, including several foreign personalities. This initiative is part of Law N. 2/25, established on March 18th, which introduced the Commemorative Medal of the 50th Anniversary of Angola's Independence. The medals honor individuals and institutions that have shown dedication, bravery, and service to the Angolan Nation throughout its history. This seventh decoration phase also pays tribute to the Peace and National Reconciliation Accords signed on April 4, 2002, a pivotal moment in Angola's journey toward unity and stability. The President's recognition extends to women and men who have contributed to Angola's independence, peace consolidat ion, and sustainable development. Among those honored are journalists Santos Rosa, Feliciana Arago, Isaías Afonso, Africano Neto, Cabingano Manuel, and international figures such as Igor Sechin from Russia, Pierre Victor Mpoyo from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mozambican nationalist Marcelino dos Santos.
