Luanda: Angola joined the African Franchise Association (AFA) in August of this year, marking a significant step towards integrating its market with others across the continent. The AFA aims to support the cross-border development and expansion of franchise networks, thereby bringing African markets closer together.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Angola's membership was formalized during the AFA's first General Assembly, which was conducted virtually. The move links Angola's franchise ecosystem directly with the continental structure, prioritizing brand expansion across borders, operator training, and fostering closer ties with investors and financial institutions. It also seeks to establish common benchmarks for franchise development in Africa.
The membership opens opportunities for Angolan companies to connect with associations, franchisors, investors, and specialists from other African markets. Angolan businesses can now participate in capacity-building initiatives, trade missions, and pursue partnerships for expanding national brands beyond their borders.
This development coincides with the AFA's strategy to leverage franchising as a tool for business expansion within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The aim is to facilitate the exchange of business concepts between markets and enhance cooperation among national associations.
For the African Franchise Association's leadership, Angola's inclusion strengthens the organization's presence in Southern Africa. It introduces a market with the potential to develop national brands and attract franchise networks from other African countries. The AFA, a continental non-profit organization, unites national franchise structures, operators, and experts across Africa, working towards a common goal of market integration and growth.
