Angola Places Ten Boxers in Final of 50th Anniversary Independence Tournament

Luanda: Angola qualified ten boxers for the final of the international tournament on the '50 years of independence', on Friday, in Luanda, which takes place at the Cidadela Sports Pavilion. According to Angola Press News Agency, of the 11 fights involving Angolan athletes, there was only one defeat in the semi-finals, while four victories were due to suspension of the fight after observing that the fighters were no longer able to continue fighting. Among the fights, highlight goes on the victory of Gilson Gonçalves over the Congolese athlete, Ngassai Ngobaka, in the 48kg category, Nzuzi Tando over Jacobus Kotze, from Namibia, in the 80kg category, Kelson Miguel against Simbarasthe from Zimbabwe, in the 80kg category and Francisco Kabasu against Anesu Motsi from Zambia. In the competition that continues on Saturday, Angola will once again compete in ten of the 14 fights that will take place throughout the day. It is worth remembering that on the first day of fights, on Thursday, Angola won nine fights and lost three, with the highlight being the victory of boxer Nuno Ribeiro, African bronze medalist in the 54 kg category, who beat Bakana Kombo from Congo Brazzaville unanimously. Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo Brazzaville, South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe will compete until Sunday (25) in this competition that celebrates 50 years of national independence, achieved on November 11, 1975.
