President Joo Louren§o to Meet with African Group in Brasilia

Brasilia: Angolan Head of State, Joo Louren§o, as the acting Chairperson of the African Union (AU), will participate Saturday in a meeting with the African Group. The group mentioned is made up of ambassadors from African countries accredited in Brazil. The event, which will take place on the eve of Africa Day, to be marked on Sunday (25 May), will also be attended by diplomatic representatives from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

According to Angola Press News Agency, on Friday afternoon, Joo Louren§o participated in an official lunch hosted by his Brazilian counterpart, President Lula da Silva, in honour of the state visit he has been making to this South American country since Thursday. The second day of the visit included a meeting at the Planalto Palace (the official workplace of the President of Brazil) with Lula da Silva, followed by talks between delegations from both countries that resulted in the signing of four legal instruments and joint statements to the press.

Joo Louren§o also met with a group representing local businesspeople and shared general ideas about the potential that the country can offer in different investment segments. Angola and Brazil strengthened bilateral cooperation with the signing on Friday of new legal instruments in different fields. The Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of Guidelines for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Children and Teenagers, the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Police and the Federal Police of Brazil were signed as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on research and development and projects of interest in the Upstream sector and the Project to Strengthen Angola's Agricultural and Forestry Research Institutions for the Sustainable Development of Semi-Arid Regions.
