Angola Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Ties with Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek: Angola's permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Francisco Jos© da Cruz, reiterated the country's interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and collaborating in international forums, including the UN, to promote peace and sustainable development. The announcement came during a meeting between a group of 13 ambassadors from Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific, and Europe with Kyrgyzstan's President, Sadyr Japarov.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Ambassador Francisco Jos© conveyed greetings from Angola's President, Joo Louren§o, and expressed support for Kyrgyzstan's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. He commended the agenda of Kyrgyzstan's candidacy, which emphasizes peace and security, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order, aligning with the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly in areas of peacekeeping, mediation, and conflict resolution in Africa.

During the meeting, President Japarov outlined Kyrgyzstan's goals for its candidacy for the 2027-2028 term on the UN Security Council. The group of diplomats, including eight from Africa, also engaged in discussions with Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeenbek Kulubayev, on bilateral and multilateral issues. These discussions covered topics such as the current challenges to international peace and security, UN reform, sustainable development, and climate change.

In addition to the diplomatic discussions, the ambassadors toured various historical, cultural, and tourist sites in Kyrgyzstan's capital and surrounding areas, further enriching their visit.

Early in March, Angolan president Joo Louren§o received in audience, in Luanda, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov, with whom he discussed issues of mutual interest.
