Angola Registers 13 Monkeypox Cases in Northern Provinces

Luanda: Angola has registered a total of 13 positive cases of monkeypox in the northern provinces of Cabinda and Uige, as announced by the country's Health Minister, Silvia Lutucuta. These cases were reported at the conclusion of the 1st meeting of the Local Governance Council, chaired by President Joo Louren§o.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister detailed that nine cases were identified in Cabinda and four in Uige. In Cabinda, cases have been diagnosed since last year, with five positive cases reported this year. Silvia Lutucuta urged the population to adhere to prevention measures set forth by health authorities to curb the disease's spread.

The health authorities are distributing monkeypox vaccines to provinces bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as a preventive strategy. Lutucuta also noted that no suspected Ebola cases have been reported in Angola, despite its prevalence in the DRC, and reiterated the importance of following preventive measures.

Measures implemented by health authorities in border areas include temperature checks for individuals crossing the border with the DRC. The minister advised against consuming wild game and traveling to disease-affected areas in the neighboring DRC.
