Luanda: Angola has secured 102,000 tonnes of fertiliser to support its agricultural sector for the 2026/2027 season, as announced by the Angolan Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos. This substantial stock is set for distribution across the nation, with a strategic focus on provinces that boast the highest production capacities, which will receive more than 10,000 tonnes each. Other provinces will receive a minimum allocation of 1,000 tonnes.
According to Angola Press News Agency, this initiative was discussed in detail following a meeting between Minister dos Anjos and various companies selected through a public tender to manage the fertiliser sales for the upcoming agricultural season. The minister emphasized that the current supply is adequate to meet the demands of the season, with the collaborative efforts of businesspeople involved in the import, procurement, and distribution sectors playing a crucial role in ensuring timely delivery to the provinces.
Minister dos Anjos highlighted the significance of distributing fertiliser early enough in the year to facilitate seamless agricultural operations. He also acknowledged Angola's ongoing reliance on fertiliser imports, despite aspirations to eventually establish local production capabilities. To bolster the 2026/2027 agricultural season further, Angola plans to import an additional 146,000 tonnes of fertiliser by December.
Recent data shows that Angola's agricultural production reached approximately 30 million tonnes in the 2024/2025 season, marking an 8.6 percent growth from the previous year. Family farming remains a cornerstone of the country's agriculture, contributing over 60 percent of the total output. Of the 3.5 million agricultural households, 1,174,655, or about 39.1 percent, received government support, underscoring the importance of continued investment in the sector.
