Luanda: Angola's national insurance market recorded a 21% growth in 2025, with Gross Written Premiums reaching 578.4 billion Kwanzas compared with the previous year.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the figures are contained in the 2025 Market Report of the Angolan Agency for Insurance Regulation and Supervision (ARSEG), presented in Luanda by C©sar Marcelino, Director of the institution's Strategic Studies and Planning Office. The growth was primarily driven by non-life insurance, particularly in areas such as workplace accidents, petrochemicals, and motor insurance, which accounted for 92% of total production, equivalent to 532.9 billion kwanzas.
During the period, claims costs increased by 77% to 251.3 billion kwanzas, raising the overall claims ratio to 43%. Despite this increase, the sector concluded 2025 with a net profit of 46.6 billion kwanzas and a combined ratio of 75.10%. In the pension funds segment, assets under management reached 1.26 trillion kwanzas, representing an 11% growth, with the number of participants reaching 68,423.
C©sar Marcelino highlighted that the number of individual insurance intermediaries increased by 130% to 4,963 professionals, generating 408.4 billion kwanzas in premiums, which is 71% of the total insurance market production. In terms of reinsurance, ceded premiums rose to 173.2 billion kwanzas, marking an 18.9% increase from 2024, while claims recovered from reinsurers amounted to 65.1 billion kwanzas.
In 2025, nine regulatory standards were approved, covering the governance of micro-insurance activities, intermediary training, money laundering prevention, market conduct, and complaint handling. Consumer protection saw 712 complaints registered, a 16.53% increase compared with 2024. The insurance market in 2025 comprised 22 insurance companies.
