Angola seek podium at African Handball Championship

Luanda – The Angolan national senior men’s handball team started Monday their participation in the 25th African Championship in Cairo, Egypt, with eyes on the top three places, with a view to improving the fourth position achieved in the previous edition.

Angola face Zambia in the opening round of the competition, Angolans are favorite to win the match given their history of participation and regularity in the competition, as well as the three bronze medals the team have won.

The two teams that are part of group D face each other for the first time in a group that includes the national teams of Senegal and Democratic Republic of Congo.

The competition that integrates 13 national teams will be contested in the round-robin system, qualifying for the quarter-finals the top two teams of each group.

Tunisia hold the highest number of trophies with 10 titles won, followed by Egypt with six.

Angola are in the 26th position of the International Handball Federation (IHF) ranking.

Angola won the bronze medal in 2004, 2006 (Egypt) and 2018 (Gabon).
