Angola Seeks Financial Support from World Bank for Economic Growth

Bangkok:The Angolan Government is actively seeking to mobilize financial resources to enhance its economic diversification and support inclusive growth by engaging in dialogue with the World Bank. This initiative was announced by Luís Epalanga, Angola's Secretary of State for Planning, during the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Epalanga emphasized that the funding sought would not compromise the sustainability of Angola's public debt. He noted that the World Bank is currently supporting Angola with investment projects valued at over US$5 billion, targeting the social, economic, and productive sectors.

Epalanga also mentioned that Angola plans to deepen its institutional dialogue with the IMF to explore areas where technical assistance could be beneficial. The government intends to leverage new World Bank initiatives to secure additional funding, which could be instrumental in addressing emergencies and facilitating rapid responses.

The Angolan delegation at the meetings, led by Epalanga, includes key government officials such as the Governor of the National Bank of Angola, Manuel Tiago Dias, and the Secretary of State for Finance and the Treasury, Ottoniel dos Santos. They aim to present Angola's priorities concerning financing and international cooperation at the event, which gathers global finance ministers, central bank governors, and policymakers to tackle major economic challenges.
