ANGOLA STRESSES AIR CONNECTION ROLE WITH TURKEY

Luanda – Angola’s head of State João Lourenço Monday highlighted the importance of the commencement of air link between the country’s capital, Luanda, and Istanbul (Turkey), in what he described as milestone for boosting business between the countries’ businessmen.

This was during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has been in Luanda, since Sunday, for a two-day visit to Angola as part of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to President João Lourenço, air connection between Luanda and Istanbul, inaugurated on October 13 this year, is worthy of mention because with this step the two countries draw closer.

“Tourists can easily visit one country or another, but especially businessmen, whether Turks who have investment to make in Angola or Angolans who have investment to make in Turkey,” he noted.

Angolan statesman said that even before the opening of the air connection between Luanda and Istanbul, some of the main Turkish companies have already started to work in Angola in the different sectors in which they are interested to invest.

President João Lourenço said that Angola welcomes cooperation with the Republic of Turkey.

“We look with very good eyes at this cooperation between Angola and Turkey, we believe that the future will confirm what we have just said, judging by the interest that Turkish businessmen have shown in Angola, shortly after our visit to Turkey,” he stressed.

He said that Angola’s side will not let this link die, “which was suddenly born, but we believe it came to progress and to stay.”

Diplomatic relations between Angola and Turkey date back to 1980 and are supported by cooperation agreements in the most different fields, covering sectors such as trade, agriculture, education, culture, defence, justice and sport.

In Angola, Turkey has investments in the provinces of Luanda and Uíge, in the areas of industry, commerce, education and civil construction.
