Angola Submits Fatima Jardim’s Candidacy for CPLP Executive Secretary

Luanda: Angola officially submitted Maria de Fatima Jardim's candidacy on Thursday in Guinea-Bissau for the position of executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) for the 2025-2027 term.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Angola's candidacy was presented by Foreign Minister T©te Ant³nio during the 30th Ordinary Meeting of the CPLP Council of Ministers, which began this morning in the capital of Guinea-Bissau. The head of Angolan diplomacy informed the ministers of the nine Member States that F¡tima Jardim's candidacy represents the continuity of a leadership committed to the founding values of the CPLP: political and diplomatic coordination, multisectoral cooperation, and the promotion of the Portuguese language as a common heritage.

Minister T©te Ant³nio emphasized that Angola's candidacy respects the principle of alphabetical rotation and underscores the country's commitment to a more cohesive, effective, and citizen-friendly CPLP. Ambassador F¡tima Jardim has held several positions in the Angolan government, notably as Minister of Fisheries and the Environment, and represented Angola in the Paris Agreement negotiations during COP21.

In addition to her governmental roles, Jardim served as vice-president of the FAO Council, representing Africa, and more recently, as Angola's ambassador to Italy. Her extensive experience has been acknowledged with the Lusofonia Prize, which recognizes individuals who excel in promoting the Portuguese language, common culture, and cooperation among the peoples of the CPLP. This international recognition reinforces her legitimacy and symbolizes her commitment to the values that unite the CPLP countries.
