Angola, Sweden analyse cooperation relations

Luanda – Cooperation between Angola and the Kingdom of Sweden was this Friday reviewed during a meeting between the Minister of State for Social Affairs, Carolina Cerqueira, and the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden, Ana Lander.

Speaking to the press in Stockholm, Sweden, after the meeting, Carolina Cerqueira said that issues on cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transport, solid waste processing, scientific research, health, renewable energy and water had been discussed.

The meeting, according to the minister, also served to reiterate Sweden’s willingness to continue to cooperate and support Angola’s development, mainly in the post-Covid-19 phase, as well as in its economic recovery.

“We refer with satisfaction that at the level of aid for the country’s development, we have been having a great participation of Swedish development agencies, mainly in community work,” she underlined.

The two ministers also analysed issues related to peace on the African continent and at world level, and Carolina Cerqueira reaffirmed the availability and efforts of President Lourenço for the pacification of the Great Lakes Region and national reconciliation in the region.

She considered Angola’s participation in the United Nations Conference on the Environment “Stockholm+50” to be positive, stressing that it had the opportunity to interact with many delegations present at the event, as well as to make known the efforts of the Angolan government to make the environment agenda a priority in the country.

The Angolan delegation also took part in several events, where the post-Covid-19 situation, sustainable development and issues linked to climate change were discussed.

She said that the country took the opportunity to present the actions that have been developed to deal with drought, as well as to take greater advantage of the oceans and the great hydraulic potential, always having as a fundamental factor man and his role in transformation, as well as defence of the environment.

The minister headed an Angolan delegation that took part in the United Nations Conference on Environment “Stockholm+50”, which aimed to strengthen the global call for action to end poverty, protect the environment and the climate and ensure that people everywhere can enjoy peace and prosperity.
