Luanda: Luanda will host the 25th General Assembly of the Association of Energy Regulators of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (RELOP) in the spring of 2027, an initiative led by the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG).
According to Angola Press News Agency, The decision was announced during the organization's 24th General Assembly in Tbilisi, Georgia, according to a statement published Wednesday on the ANPG website. During the Tbilisi assembly, the national concessionaire also expressed its readiness to organize a technical workshop and RELOP's annual conference alongside the main event, slated to take place between April and May 2027.
ANPG officials noted that hosting the gathering reinforces Angola's position within energy-sector cooperation frameworks across Portuguese-speaking nations.
During the assembly in Tbilisi, delegates reviewed the mandate of Brazil's National Electric Energy Agency for the 2024-2025 period, evaluated RELOP's 2027 budget, and approved the admission of Guinea-Bissau's Regulatory Authority for the Petroleum-Derived Fuels and Natural Gas Sector as an observer member.
Ant³nio Feij³, Deputy Director-General of Angola's Regulatory Institute for Petroleum Derivatives (IRDP)-who presided over the session as Vice-President of the General Assembly-highlighted the broad consensus achieved during the talks. He pointed to new capacity-building initiatives for energy regulators aimed at curbing electricity losses and implementing updated regulations on tariffs, commercial relations, and power-grid operations and access.
Angola has been a member of RELOP since 2008, initially represented by the Electricity and Water Services Regulatory Institute (IRSEA). Both the IRDP and the ANPG joined the regulatory body in 2019
