Angola to Host International Ankle and Knee Orthopaedic Surgery Workshop

Luanda: Angola is set to host the International Ankle and Knee Orthopaedic Surgery Workshop from November 24th to 28th, 2025. The event aims to enhance the skills of Angolan professionals in orthopedics and traumatology.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the workshop is organized by the Implementation Unit of the Human Resources in Health Training Project (PFRHS) in collaboration with the Angolan Society of Orthopedics and the American NGO Steps2Walk. The event will take place at the Pedro Maria Tonha 'Pedal©' Hospital Complex in Luanda, featuring both theoretical and practical components.

The workshop anticipates the participation of over 80 Angolan physicians, including interns and specialists from various hospital units nationwide. It will be led by an international team, including the founder and chairman of Steps2Walk, Professor Mark Myerson, and experts from Portugal and Turkey, as well as Angolan doctors.

This initiative is part of the National Program for Human Resources Training in Health, funded by the World Bank, aiming to bolster specialized training for health professionals and promote international technical and scientific exchange. The five-day course will include approximately 20 surgeries supervised by international trainers at the 'Pedal©' Hospital Complex, a recognized national center for medical training.

The Angolan Ministry of Health highlights its ongoing commitment to investing in staff training and improving orthopedic and traumatology services in the country. Preparations for the event include verifying technical and logistical conditions, such as transportation, accommodation, and medical materials.

A meeting between the Human Resources Training Project Implementation Unit and the Angolan Orthopedic Society was held to assess the technical and logistical arrangements for the workshop. This meeting was chaired by PFRHS coordinator Job Monteiro, with the Angolan Orthopedic Society delegation led by its chairman, Pedro Essaca.
