Angola to receive over USD 80 million from Global Fund

Luanda – Angola will receive from the Global Fund an amount worth USD 80 million from 2024 to 2027 to help in the fight against diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, the senior manager of the institution, Joshua Galjour, announced Monday in Luanda.

Joshua Galjour announced this to the press at the end of an audience with the first vice Speaker of the National Assembly (AN), Américo Cuononoca, who added that this year Angola will benefit from this amount to cover the needs in combating these infectious diseases.

He explained that these funds will be delivered according to a work plan, prepared by the country and negotiated with the main donors.

The Global Fund, he said, is a financing partner that is based on programmatic and financial performance, considering “satisfactory” the performance of Angola in the last three years.

The Global Fund has been funding, over the last three years, a US$105 million programme to combat HIV-AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and Covid-19.

This financing has helped to improve the health conditions of the population in the provinces of Cuanza Sul and Benguela, as part of a new sub-national approach of the Global Fund for Angola.

As for the meeting, he said that it was very useful and served to reinforce the existing relationship, welcoming the presence of the leader of the third, fifth and sixth commissions of the AN.

The Global Fund, Angola’s largest donor in the health sector, is an international financial organisation that aims to attract and distribute additional resources to prevent and treat infectious diseases.
