Luanda:Members of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) are encouraged to strengthen cooperation to address digital transformation and internet governance, according to Angola's Secretary of State for Social Communication.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Nuno Caldas Albino spoke at the opening of the IV Lusophone Internet Governance Forum in Luanda, emphasizing the need for Portuguese-speaking nations to share experiences and best practices. He highlighted the critical role of digital networks in economic performance, public administration, education, healthcare, and media.
Albino outlined key priorities for CPLP member nations, including digital inclusion, cybersecurity, data protection, artificial intelligence, digital literacy, and the creation of Portuguese-language content.
He advocated for a multi-stakeholder approach to shaping digital policies, involving governments, regulatory bodies, private enterprises, universities, technical communities, civil society, and youth, to build a secure and inclusive internet environment. Albino stressed, "No one should be left out; the internet must present an opportunity for everyone, regardless of geographic location, economic status, gender, age, or physical limitations."
The Secretary of State also emphasized the importance of expanding broadband access and electricity in rural areas, along with investments in telecommunications infrastructure and technological training, to reduce the digital divide.
The forum, organized by the Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI), brings together delegates from CPLP governments, international organizations, academia, and the private sector to discuss online security, technological innovation, and data privacy.
