Luanda: The Angolan national judo team achieved a remarkable feat by securing the silver medal at the African Youth Games held in Luanda. The team showcased a strong performance throughout the competition, advancing to the finals after a decisive 4-0 victory over Cape Verde in the semi-finals. However, in the final match, Angola was bested by Algeria, who claimed the championship title with a 4-0 win.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the competition saw a diverse representation with 132 athletes, comprising 65 men and 67 women, from 30 African countries. Algeria emerged as the team champion, followed by Angola in second place, Egypt in third, Senegal in fourth, and Cape Verde in fifth position.
In individual events conducted earlier, Angola secured the third position in the medal tally with a total of 13 medals, which included three gold, six silver, and four bronze medals. Egypt topped the individual medal count with five gold, four silver, and five bronze, while Algeria followed in second place with four gold, one silver, and one bronze. Tunisia and Congo completed the top five, with Tunisia earning two golds and Congo amassing one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
