Angolan Ambassador Begins Diplomatic Mission in Senegal

Dakar:Angolan ambassador to Senegal Egidio de Sousa Santos has officially started his diplomatic tenure in Dakar by presenting his working credentials to Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Niang.

According to Angola Press News Agency, this ceremony at Senegal's foreign ministry headquarters marks the initial step in diplomatic protocol before Ambassador Sousa Santos presents his formal credentials to Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in the coming days.

During the meeting, both officials discussed strategies to enhance bilateral relations, with a focus on expanding economic diplomacy and revitalizing commercial partnerships to benefit the business sectors of both nations.

Cheikh Niang highlighted the importance of the new Luanda-Dakar-Praia flight route announced by Angola's national airline, TAAG Angola Airlines. This new air link is expected to boost regional tourism, cultural exchange, and direct business ventures.

Ambassador Sousa Santos reaffirmed the strong ties of friendship between Angola and Senegal, underscoring their shared commitment to mutual economic development within the framework of South-South cooperation.

Recent years have seen accelerated bilateral relations between the two countries, marked by the opening of the Angolan Embassy in Dakar in 2022 and several diplomatic agreements in economic, technical, and scientific sectors.

Key agreements include the establishment of a joint bilateral commission, regular diplomatic consultations between foreign ministries, and mutual visa exemptions for official and diplomatic passport holders. Future cooperation plans aim to focus on justice, tourism, and expanding intra-African trade between Southern and West Africa.
