Dili: The Angolan ambassador to Timor-Leste, José Andrade de Lemos, paid tribute on Tuesday in Dili to former Timorese President Francisco Guterres 'Lú-Olo', who died on Sunday at the age of 71. According to Angola Press News Agency, during the funeral ceremonies held at the former statesman's official residence in Dili, the Angolan diplomat offered condolences to the bereaved family, the Government of Timor-Leste, and FRETILIN, the party led by Francisco Guterres 'Lú-Olo' until his death. The tribute was attended by high-ranking Timorese state officials, members of the Executive branch, and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country. Francisco Guterres 'Lú-Olo' was a member of the National Liberation Armed Forces of Timor-Leste (FALINTIL) during the struggle for independence and, after the restoration of the country's sovereignty, served as President of the National Parliament and President of the Republic between 2017 and 2022. Following the death of the former Head of State, the Timorese Government decreed seven days of national mourning. The funeral is scheduled for June 26 at the Garden of Heroes and Martyrs of the Fatherland in Metinaro, on the outskirts of Dili.
