Baku:Lunda-Norte The Angolan Border Guard Police (PGFA)'s seventh unit has successfully deactivated 410 explosive devices in Lunda-Norte province between January 2025 and September. This operation was part of the national demining program aimed at clearing hazardous ordnance from the region.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the demining activities were conducted in collaboration with the National Mine Action Agency and the Angolan Armed Forces. The efforts focused on the municipalities of Cambulo, Lóvua, Chitato, and Canzar, where unexploded mines and projectiles were identified, collected, and safely destroyed.
Miguel Oliveira, head of the demining brigade's 3rd platoon, spoke about the operations following the controlled destruction of the munitions. The initiative cleared five distinct mined areas, contributing to regional safety and development.
Faustino Malenga, Vice-Governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, emphasized the importance of the demining initiative in the government's strategy to reclaim land for community development. This effort not only reduces mine-related accidents but also facilitates public investments in infrastructure like schools and hospitals, while boosting agriculture and improving local living standards.
Currently, Lunda-Norte has 58 cataloged suspected mine-affected areas. The National Demining Center is actively working on two of these sites, with ongoing monitoring of the remaining locations.
