Rio de janeiro: The Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tete Antonio, met with his counterparts from the Republic of Congo and Uruguay to strengthen bilateral cooperation and diplomatic coordination in the face of global challenges. These discussions took place in Rio de Janeiro during the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Zone of Peace and Cooperation of the South Atlantic (ZOPACAS) on April 8 and 9.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting with Congo-Brazzaville's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Claude Gakosso, focused on enhancing relations between Angola and Congo-Brazzaville. Emphasis was placed on the historical bonds of friendship, fraternity, and solidarity that unite the two nations. Minister Antonio also conveyed greetings from President Joo Louren§o to President Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo, underscoring the spirit of mutual respect and consideration.
In a separate discussion, Antonio engaged with his Uruguayan counterpart, Mario Israel Lubetkin Tulbovic, to explore ways to bolster bilateral cooperation amid current global challenges. Key topics included boosting trade and investment between Africa and South America, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and the food industry.
The ministers underscored the importance of coordination in multilateral forums like the United Nations to promote joint stances on critical issues such as climate change, food security, and sustainable development. Their agenda also highlighted the significance of academic and cultural exchange and the establishment of higher education partnerships as tools for strengthening relations.
