Luanda:Angolan President João Lourenço addressed the opening of the 4th edition of the Luanda Biennale, emphasizing the need to overcome issues such as insecurity and instability that impede Africa's progress, as outlined in the African Union's 2063 Agenda.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Lourenço highlighted the significance of strengthening water governance in Africa as a crucial tool for conflict prevention, mediation, and resolution. He stressed the essential role of this resource in the lives and development of the continent's populations.

The President expressed satisfaction with the high level of attendance at the Biennale, which includes representatives from various countries, members of the diplomatic corps, youth leaders, and international delegates. He underscored the importance of collective efforts to address Africa's challenges, focusing on peace, stability, and development.

The Luanda Biennale, held biennially since 2019, serves as a platform to discuss Africa's challenges, particularly those related to fostering tolerance and harmony. This year's theme, 'Strengthening Water Governance in Africa as a Tool for the Prevention, Mediation, and Resolution of Conflicts,' aims to foster reflection and dialogue on how water management contributes to peace and stability in Africa.

The event has brought together over a thousand participants, including 400 delegates from 62 countries, supported by 80 partners and attended by three heads of state. The forum is an initiative of the Angolan government, in partnership with the African Union and UNESCO, designed to promote dialogue, reflection, and consensus-building around a culture of peace and non-violence in Africa.

The agenda includes discussions on water diplomacy, regional integration, and mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution. The event will conclude with the adoption of the Luanda Biennial 2026 Declaration and a final communiqué from the African Union, UNESCO, and the Angolan government.
