Angolan President Honors African Leaders in Independence Milestone

Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o on Wednesday acknowledged the significant contributions of African leaders over the past 50 years of national independence by awarding decorations to notable statesmen from the continent. The ceremony was held in Luanda as part of the 8th Awards Ceremony, which celebrates distinguished individuals in the categories of Honor, Independence, and Peace and Development.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Class of Honor saw recognition given to the current President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, and the former Moroccan monarch Hassan II, known as 'King Hassan II'. The event highlighted the contributions of various former Heads of State, including Ahmed Ben Bella and Houari Boumedienne from Algeria, Ahmed S©kou Tour© and Alpha Cond© from Guinea, and Joo Bernardo Vieira 'Nino Vieira' from Guinea-Bissau.

Other notable figures recognized included Jomo Kenyatta from Kenya, Kenneth David Kaunda from Zambia, Kwame Nkrumah from Ghana, Marien Ngouabi from Congo, and Murtala Ramat Mohammed from Nigeria. The decorated list also featured Mwalimu Julius Nyerere from Tanzania, Nelson Mandela from South Africa, Olusegun Obasanjo from Nigeria, Omar Bongo Ondimba from Gabon, and Pedro Pires from Cape Verde.

Additionally, Robert Gabriel Mugabe from Zimbabwe, Samora Mois©s Machel from Mozambique, Samuel Daniel 'Sam Nujoma' from Namibia, and Seretse Khama from Botswana were acknowledged for their roles in advancing the cause of independence and development across Africa.
